First Fridays Music Series, September 2nd, 2011
Gulf Alliance for Local Arts presents Randall " Big Daddy" Webster, Professor Joel C. Johnson and A. J. Hall at First Fridays Music Series, September 2nd in Port St. Joe, FL.
Together Randall “Big Daddy” Webster (Tallahassee Florida USA) and Professor Joël C. Johnson (Orlando Florida USA) are a formidable duo with a combined fifty-eight (58) years performing Blues and Jazz music, over four (4) years performing in concert and in the recording studio with “Big Daddy & Red Hot Java,” endless USA and international tours, both are sponsored by Godin Guitars, and both have serious music academic accreditations. Big Daddy is certified by the Blues Foundation and the Florida Humanities Council, and Joël is a professor and scholar teaching at Florida State University and other universities on the music industry, music technology, and music education. They bring their world view of Blues built on its indigenous African-American heritage. It’s Blues peppered with Soul, Jazz and life that ignites your primal core, and makes you think. Webster and Johnson just completed their new duo CD “The Wounded Healer,” and they are touring Europe during the Spring and Summer of 2011 in support of the recording. For drummer/musician A. J. Hall, music is life. Hall studies Jazz drums and percussion at Florida State University under director and international Jazz drummer and maestro Leon Anderson. Hall also sings, plays guitar, saxophone, bass, and when the moment strikes he’s known to bust all sorts of dance moves! He’s been the touring drummer for “Big Daddy & Red Hot Java” for nearly a year, and has his own group covering classic and contemporary Jazz, Funk and Ska.
First Fridays Art & Music Series is held at the Port Inn & Thirsty Goat Bar & Grill, located at the corner of Hwy 98 and Cecil Costin Blvd in Port St. Joe, Florida. First Fridays is free and open to the public. Opening reception from 6-7 pm, followed by music on the porch from 7:00 to 11:30pm.
