Produce Personal Paintings”
A Painting Workshop Presented by Duane Sabiston
A nationally known Art Educator, Speaker and Artist
Visit www.duanesabiston.net
Duane leads workshop participants through artistic exercises
to discover and establish personal aesthetic preferences.
Duane teaches, “Art is more than learning painting technique. Teaching techniques encourages students to produce paintings that look alike. My intention is to teach students to think like artists in order to make individual decisions that produce personal paintings.” Through the painting process participants will explore ways artists think when painting. Together we will analyze works of Master Artists i.e. Vermeer, Edward Hopper and John Singer Sargent and others, in order to understand their use of Color, Light and Shadows. A variety of new mentors will be introduced to guide participants through a process of identifying their artistic intentions.
We will ask artistic questions in order to develop personal styles-
Do I want to:
Itemize or summarize the details found in Mother Nature?
Flood my canvass with dynamic colors or use soft delicate colors to portray moods?
Apply expressive, dynamic brush strokes or merge soft strokes that melt into form?
Use dramatic lighting to create bold shadows or just a kiss of light?
Students of all levels of experience are invited to participate.
Artists may use medium of choice: oils, acrylics, water colors or pastels.
Painting subjects will range from portraits to landscapes.

Dates: Tuesday and Thursday – October 26th and 28th 2010
