GULF ALLIANCE FOR LOCAL ARTS

Regular Board Meeting

Tuesday, October 16, 2007

GALA board members met for its regular monthly meeting on Tuesday, October 16, 2007, at  Provisions in Port St. Joe. Attending:  Vince Bishop, Jodie Perez,  Kim Harrison, Joe Taylor, Connie Risinger, Pamela Garmon, and Natalie Shoal. The meeting was called to order by President Jodie Perez at 9:15 am edt.

Director Kim Harrison opened discussion with a review of the Bylaws, which state that it is the Vice President's duty to remind those who volunteer for duties, that they not forget they did so.  In the future this action will be highlighted in the minutes.

Kim also reviewed the specialty license tag for the Arts, of which GALA is entitled to said funds.  In 2002, Gulf County commissioners designated GALA as a LAA, Local Arts Agency.  This is an important identification because there are only 32 such recognized agencies in the state of Florida.   Research into the tag income, needs to be done.  At present GALA has not taken any action on this subject.

Action points from the Board Retreat were reviewed.  Membership should now become one of, if not the top, most important item of our association.  Dan Anderson has conferred with Kim that he would be willing to 'pro bono' designing a tri-fold membership brochure for GALA.  Group discussion focused on 'membership benefits' and they need to be clearly laid out so that prospective new members will 'want' to join.  It should be stressed this is a 'tri-county' association, not just Gulf county.  Further discussion will continue within the membership committee, and the committee will review all contents of the brochure. Once the important points are agreed upon, Kim will meet with Mr. Anderson.

Discussion of officers were addressed.  Since the bylaws have changed the fiscal year time period, current President Jodie Perez will add 6 more months to her term.  Members agreed that an interim president would greatly benefit all.  Pamela Garmon agreed to work with Jodie, beginning in January 2008.

The GALA announcement bulletin will be sent out email every Wednesday.

on a A meeting will be scheduled by Joe Taylor Monday afternoon, date and time to be decided, to discuss the year round ongoing Arts School in Apalachicola.  This meeting will be by committee members Natalie Shoal, Joe Taylor, Vice Bishop and Jodie Perez.

Plein Air:  Joe Taylor will be Marketing Chair.  Richard Carroll , Joe Taylor and Leslie Fedota will hold a meeting to develop a plan for Plein Air on all elements.  Richard Carroll will be in charge of recruitment of artists and general spokesperson.  Natalie Shoal will handle lodging for the artists.  Duties for all chairpersons need to be in writing so that all understand exactly what is expected.

The School of Fish restaurant in Windmark should be open and ready for business in May of 2008 so that our patron's dinner, or whatever we decide to do this time, can be held at this location.  Richard Carroll has already contacted St. Joe Co. representative, Mr. Rentfroe concerning this matter.  The meeting has been scheduled for Nov. 5.

Joe Taylor asked all members present to please look at the website "pleinaireaston.com".

The meeting was adjourned at 10:30 am edt.
