Nationally renowned Plein Air artists capture the allure of the Forgotten Coast in the Second Annual Paint-Out May 10-20, 2007
PORT ST. JOE, FLORIDA, APRIL 4, 2007: So much to paint so little time! That is the dilemma of the Plein Air artists that will be painting on the beaches, marshes, lakes and throughout the streets of the little waterfront towns between Apalachicola and Mexico Beach, Florida.
Gulf Alliance for the Local Arts, with the support of St Joe Company and the Tourism Development Council, present over 25 nationally renowned Plein Air artists who will be painting on location, capturing the atmosphere of the moment. Plein Air, a French word, simply translated means ‘open air’. Most artist agree this is the true test of skill as it requires complete confidence in placement of color and brushwork in a short amount of time, usually 30-40 minutes. Visitors are welcomed to watch them in action between sunrises to sunset daily May 11-19. Artist location maps will be available. The Plein Air artist participating in the Forgotten Coast paint-out are nationally recognized artist with their paintings included in many exclusive collections throughout the world. These artists have won numerous awards and have been featured in publications throughout the country. (See Artist bio’s attached)
Art collectors are invited to view and purchase approximately 350 painting from this ‘paint-out’ at several events. The Wet Room Artist Reception and Painting Sale on May 16 from 7-9 pm EST at Apalachicola Museum of Art. Tickets are $25 and are limited. The Patrons Extravaganza Dinner and Art Sale will be held at the St Joe Marina, Port St Joe, Saturday May 19 6:30 EST. Seating is limited, Tickets are $100. Afternoon Art in the Park is Sunday, May 20 and is free to the public. Hours are noon to 4 pm EST.
